We live in a place where we consider technology as the basic need of livelihood but we barely realize the fact that improving technology is somehow destroying lives, mother earth, the biological cycle and ourselves. We ignore the darker side of technology. We, humans, are at the top of the food chain and thus it is somehow our responsibility to look after the fact that the living thing does not get destroyed because of our actions and benefits.
Biotechnology: when you will google the term biotechnology you will get to see this “Biotechnology is the broad area of biology, involving living systems and organisms to develop or make products." We the civilized animals use other animals and plants for our benefits and now this use is turning into a business. Every single day thousands of innocent animals are tested and modified according to our needs. And not just animals, plants are also being modified. You must be thinking about how are they being modified. So let me make it easy for you, the DNA of such animals and plants are manipulated. The DNA which is useless for us is cut and joined by the DNA which we need no matter that DNA is of the same organism or not.
How will you feel when you will get to know that the tomatoes you are eating are not the ones that mother earth has given us? The seeds of tomatoes in the market are none other Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) they are modified so that they can stay fresh for a long time. And not just tomatoes maximum of the vegetables and fruits are modified.
Yes, it is beneficial for mankind but changing the natural thing? Is it right? Is it ethical to make others suffer?
Maximum of the cosmetics are tested on rabbit’s skin; several injections on mice, dogs, pigs, etc; medicines on the monkey. Ever thought about them? The innocent animals, those who can’t even speak that it’s hurting. What will you do of that makeup that stole innocent animal's skin?
The picture you can see above is a Genetically Modified Pig they call it a Human Pig. And it is used as a product for organ transplantation in humans. It is made by inserting human DNA into the DNA of a pig and thus it gives humanistic features like fingers, legs, forehead and many more. Organs like the liver are transplanted so that a human can survive but we have no idea how many animal lives were taken away during this process. It is just one example there are many more examples of GMOs and animal product testing.
Yes, we use biotechnology, all of us do. But the technology which will cost a living thing’s life, stealing everything from an organism who can’t even speak. So all of us need to stop making it a business and make it a better place for not just humans but animals and plants.
Rather than focusing on rights and freedoms, wisdom is needed to articulate our responsibilities towards nature and others, including future generations. The power and potential of biotechnology demands caution to ensure ethical progress. Changes are necessary because new technology can have a more profound impact on the world; because of limitations with a rights-based approach to ethics; because of the importance and difficulties of predicting consequences; and because biotechnology now manipulates humans themselves.

ReplyDeleteVery good article!! Yess we really need to see this problem in a larger view.... People in our day to day life hurt animals n plants not only in biotechnology field. i think we need to speak up for this matter. whenever or wherever you see something bad is happening to them try to stop it n try to make people understand! Very nice work keep it up .

ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad you find it useful.
DeleteThe blog is really interesting facts about the companies who are testing the experiment on the animals which is totally unethical business practices
ReplyDeleteThank you. And yes, you're right. It is unethical and shouldn't be happening.
DeleteThe way you have carried the two one of the main topics in today's world is quite alluring,as it reflects the unethical thing which is being happening around us.keep it up.

ReplyDeletePeople need to come up and potray these issues in daily newspaper than talking about other discarded things
Yes! You are right. We need to take steps to solve the issue in a broad scale.

DeleteThank you so much. I'm glad you liked reading it.
DeletePerfect explaination of the need of bioengineering and its ability to give biological protection from disease and pests, so a minor necessity for chemical insecticides. Altering genetic qualities can prove to be so much helpful, Perfect Blog!!

DeleteThank you!
DeleteGood Job !
ReplyDeleteGreat share rohini.keep updating!
ReplyDeleteGreat job. i appreciate your effort. and interested subject.
ReplyDeletebut i just want to clarify one thing. it is a part of survival race.
therefore it should be done in controlled way. we cant stop it completely
Thank you.
DeleteYes, you're right it is need of survival. But don't you think there should be an extent by which this practice should be performed. We can't destroy the biological cycle, Right ?
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
Yes agreed
Deleteit should be done in the controlled way. to maintain the balance. otherwise some some of the species will extinct.
Very nice survay of ethics.....
ReplyDeleteBut I'm confuses and anxiety because how will be similarly of human DNA with animals.
1stly
1. mind & self feeling are different type.
2. Domestic animals are not understood instructions and talk
3. Some common function available between animals and human being.
Topics are interested,so make resurch topics.
Okok bye
Thank you for reading.
DeleteComing to your question,
1. Human and animal DNA is completely different. Scientists join the DNA by a process called recombination. In which they combine some part of animal DNA to the part of human DNA which is responsible for making some organ or enzyme. And they are joined in nucleus of cell where DNA exists. Finally, the cell grows into a complete organism with mixed features of human and animal.
2. Yes! You're right animals can't understand us. But we humans are evolved from animals only so we have the same structure of cell at some extent.
I hope the answers are understandable.
Feel free to ask anything.
All the very best.
Don't you think if testing animals are wrong and it is unethical. So just killing and eating animals for taste is also unethical? please give your view on this topic.
ReplyDeleteIf testing is wrong then killing and eating just for taste is more bad.
Deleteif you die you won't feel any pain. and if someone is teasing you it will be more painful . plus eating is the part of food chain it can't be changed. and we can't deny that human is also grew up by eating flesh.
DeleteSo testing should be done what?
DeleteWhat is your opinion?
Thanks for reading.
DeleteAccording to me we are involved in a biological cycle which is supposed to be followed. All the organism will survive only when the cycle is running smoothly thus eating animals doesn't mean that it is unethical. Whereas misusing the biological cycle is unethical. Testing on animals are harming their species and somehow they are getting extinct because of our misuse.
Very informative blog Rohini.Looking forward for more such blogs
